Export Properties, Import Properties, Copy Revit IDs

Property export and import through Excel

Export Properties writes one row per selected element with the property columns you choose. Import Properties does the reverse: export a template keyed by element identifier, fill in custom properties in Excel, and import it to write the values onto the matching elements across the federated model.

What it does

Write spreadsheet values back onto model elements

Export chosen properties per element to Excel or CSV, write spreadsheet values back onto matching elements, and copy Revit ids for Select by ID.

  • Export: pick the property categories, the columns and the output units, and get one row per element to Excel or CSV
  • Import: map spreadsheet columns to a property category of your choice and match rows against the whole model or the current selection
  • Copy Revit IDs copies every Revit element id of the selection as a semicolon-separated list, ready for Revit's Select by ID
  • Imported values go to a user-defined tab named after the column category. Native Revit properties are never overwritten, and an empty cell leaves the value unchanged
  • Cells keep their type: numbers, true or false and dates stay typed, and text with a leading zero such as 0012 stays text so marks and room numbers still match
  • Export Properties writes a GUID column and [Category,Property] headers that Import Properties reads back, so an exported workbook can be edited and imported without reformatting
  • Exports can be cancelled from the progress bar
  • Run Cache Properties or Load Cache first and the Import Properties identifier pickers open filled

A round trip through Excel

Status, responsibility, cost code, installation date: the properties a coordination team needs are often not in the Revit export. Export the template, fill the column in Excel, import it, and the values sit on the elements as a property category of your choice. The values are saved with the NWF or NWD. From there they drive Group Elements rules like any native property, and decimal columns can be summed in a QTO report.

Export Properties and Import Properties have their own ribbon icons, crisp at both the small and the large ribbon size.
